I’m Shannon. I’m a mom of Anna, Winnie, and Henry, and wife to Ben.
Never (ever!) having taken an art class in school, I started painting paper banners for my kids’ birthday parties when they were little. Friends started asking me to paint banners for their kids, or their parents, or their friends. I tried painting more things: table runners, champagne bottles, bibles. Everything I painted belonged to a celebration,so when I was trying to decide on what to call myself, this scripture came to me, and Good Cheer Creative was born.
I have told you these things,
so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But be of good cheer!
I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
In May 2023, we got the life-changing news that our 15-year-old daughter had stage III ovarian cancer. We put everything on hold and focused all of our energy on getting her well. After a summer of surgeries, chemo, and so many hospital stays, she is in remission.
After the summer as a way to set aside some time to do something that brings me joy, I signed up for my very first art class. As I spent time practicing in between classes, the time I was spending painting was helping my healing journey. I’m not sure how my story will unfold, but I feel the Holy Spirit in my work. I really hope that the art I’m creating brings the strength, or joy, or reminder of God’s love that you need right now.
May you be blessed.
